So You're Saying There's Still a Chance

With the Royals win on Saturday afternoon against the White Sox they put the breaks on their losing at eight games.  Eight games is the key here, you see if that losing streak is extended to nine games then you can all but kiss another World Series Championship goodbye.  It's already hard enough to reach the fall classic but i'm saying it's near impossible if you sustain a nine game losing streak during the course of a season.  Since 1916 only the 1953 New York Yankees with future hall of famers Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford managed to overcome a nine game losing streak during a season and still manage to win the World Series.  We've all seen what kind of mojo we're dealing with when you're talking Royals "Midnight Blue" baseball but you're talking about one team in a hundred years. A Yankee team that had some of the greatest players in MLB history (nothing against Cheslor Cuthbert).

Unbelievably the St.Louis Cardinals in 2006 managed to lose seven straight and then eight straight games two different times during their 2006 World Series Championship season. The Yankees in 2000 lost eight straight games that season and still managed to raise a championship flag in the Bronx. Their losing streak is slightly different as they lost the last seven games going into the playoffs.  They then lose game one in the 2000 ALDS to Oakland (the following 2001 season is when Dye and Damon are traded to Oakland). So twice in the past sixteen years teams have overcoming eight game losing streaks and gone onto win it all.  That sounds much better than once in a hundred years.  On the bright side of things we have Whit Merrifield now so we can finally have second base locked down for the first time in fifteen years.  Cheer up Royals nation, there's plenty of ball left to play.
